I graduated from the Bachelor of Education program at UBC and have a Bachelor of Arts from Acadia University. Growing up in Winnipeg, I attended Balmoral Hall School for Girls and relished summers at the lake and winters spent on the public speaking team and competing provincially in gymnastics. After four years in Nova Scotia at Acadia, I lived in Bosnia-Herzegovina working for an adult education organisation. Moving to Vancouver and looking for a more local focus, I started working for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer and later, the BC Cancer Foundation’s Underwear Affair. After three years and over 20 million dollars raised, I went back to school for teacher training and landed in 2010 here at St George’s.
Five years in, I am impressed every day by the people who make this community the vibrant, genuine, real place that it is. This year I will be teaching Social Studies 8, Social Studies 10 and Law 12. I work with the Saints Conference program (debate, model UN and public speaking) and am involved with producing Arts Week. I’m also hoping to start a “run for fun” group in Term 3 games to train for a local 5 or 10k event. I train for triathlons, marathons and granfondos and would love to share this experience with some of you.
I’m going to update this space with some of my inspiration and research-findings that motivate my teaching and learning practice. As ever, I look forward to learning along side you.
